U12: Plantation 1 - 2 Potton Colts (Cup)

Writer: Potton Utd YouthPotton Utd Youth

On a very wet November morning the U12's set off for Saffron Walden to play Plantation in the second round of the League Cup. On arrival we noticed the pitch sloping, to say the least, so there would be a distinct advantage to the team playing "down hill".

When the match started the Colts were playing up hill for the first half, so the aim was to keep in touch going in to the break and push on in the second half.

From kick-off the game was on and the Colts battled hard to keep the Plantation forwards at bay, it's fair to say that, on balance, the Colts defence was as resiliant as the Plantation attack was unrelenting. It was developing into a terrific match to watch from the spectators viewpoint.

Whilst both teams battled hard, on a momentary counter-attack the Colts took the lead only to be pegged back ten minutes later, resulting in going into the break 1 - 1.

With the pitch in our favour the second half was advantage Colts, some tactical changes added to the Colts' confidence and the resulting possession saw numerous Colts attacks and fewer Plantation attacks.

As the clock ticked down and the nail biting started, some pressure and persistence from the Colts forwards broke through the Plantation defence to score a fantastic second goal with five minutes left on the clock.

The resulting "park-the-bus" Colts defence led to a superb League Cup victory. This was certainly our toughest game of the season and the euphoria from the players afterwards demonstrated just how much the team has bonded and enjoys playing together.

Many thanks to all the parents for coming out and supporting the lads, it was a great game for us all.

Next up: Saturday 11th November 2017 at home, 10am kick-off against Saffron Walden Black

Come on you blues.......
