A competitive first game of the season resulted in a 3 - 2 win for Potton. The visitors came with a game plan of deploying two holding midfielders and inviting us to break them down. A scrappy first half resulted in the visitors going ahead midway through the first half with a fortunate own goal. The boys continued to fight and a great free kick from Josh Wilson brought us back on level terms just before half time.
The second half was a niggly affair with the visitors keen to disrupt our football by physical and verbal means. The boys were told to let their football do the talking and we were ahead for the first time when Toby Paul was brought down in the box. Olly Young stood up to slot home to the keepers left. Another fortunate Saffron goal brought them back on level terms.
A push in the box on new player Jed resulted in another penalty for Potton which Olly Young cooly stepped up and once again put to the keepers left to lead 3 - 2.
In the dying stages Sam was clean through and narrowly put wide which would have been the icing on the cake.
Well played to all boys. This weeks man of the match went to Josh Wilson!
