4 points v top of the table

We visited top of the table Plantation with the boys in good form and eager to continue their surge up the table.

The pitch was the worst we have played on for a long time, A massive slope, long and short grass and mud/sand as goal areas.

The boys were told to keep it simple and play long balls over the top for Olly and the midfielders to run onto.

The Plantation goalie was small so we told the boys to shoot on site.

We started well but a defensive lapse allowed Plantation to take an early lead. The Home support were loud and sensed another win for their top of the table team!

A perfect long ball from Alfie in defence allowed Olly Young to run onto it and calmly slot past the keeper to level the scores at half time.

The boys were told to carry on as they were and a second would come as they had had the best chances of the first half.

A corner from Plantation allowed them to score from a free header at the back post. Noah tried in vain to push the ball over the bar but was unable to as he was sinking in the sand!

We equalised again through a trademark Isaac long ranger.

We should have won with the chances we created but settled for the point.

Man of the match went to Isaac for another battling performance and goal.

The boys had a breather and had the belief that they would win the second game.

Plantation won a penalty in the first few minutes when Henry thought he was on the beach playing volleyball. Understandable in my opinion!

Noah made a good save and collected the rebound.

The game was scrappy and Kieran was injured soon after which resulted in a re shuffle.

Plantation scored and we went into half time losing 1-0.

We changed formation to try to give Olly more help up top and changed some of the positions around.

Olly equalised with a well taken goal and Jed hit the crossbar along with a neighbours sky dish!

Just when we thought it would be a draw we broke and a diagonal ball left Josh with a difficult opportunity. He did well to keep the ball low and on target which the keeper pushed out and Olly managed to tuck away with minutes left.

One of the Plantation players lost his head and decided to argue with anyone in site but the ref handled it well and we took the win.

Man of the match went to Olly and Sam.

Nigel and I have been very impressed with how the team have performed since starting up again. We have been unlucky with a few nasty injuries and key players out but the boys have played in different positions for the benefit of the team with no moaning and supporting each other and the three new lads from Gamlingay fitting in with ease.

A few weeks break now before we have some important midweek games against Haverhill Reds who are aiming to get into the mix.

We have played all our double headers so from now on we will return to the 40 mins each way we prefer.

Thanks to all parents for being taxi on these long trips away and for reffing and running the line. It is appreciated.
